Join us to Dance, Move and Connect
Dance of Awareness is a group dance and movement practice based on developmental psychology. It offers a profound exploration of what it is to be in a body and to connect deeply with yourself and others. It incorporates several strands including character styles, authentic movement, five rhythms and mindfulness practice. There are no steps to learn, no judgment and no expectations. If you like 5 Rhythms, Biodanza, Contact Improvisation or similar you will most likely enjoy this! Beginners to this type of dance practice are also very welcome at all our classes and workshops.
The DoA cycle — sensing, grounding, expressing, releasing, connecting and completing — allows us to revisit our early body history, to celebrate the embodied patterns that make us unique, and discover new ways of being who we are. As we move and breathe together, we open more fully to self-awareness and a wider consciousness of our place in the world.
I run evening Dance of Awareness classes in Midhurst, Petersfield, and Birdham, and a weekly lunchtime class in Bosham. There is no need to book for any of these sessions, just turn up. Bring a bottle of water and wear something comfortable bearing in mind we will be lying on the floor for part of the session. If it’s your first time please check with me that the class you want to attend is running, as occasionally they may happen on different days of the month to those advertised.
The Midhurst class is usually on the 3rd Friday of the month at Cowdray Hall. We start at 7.30pm, cost is £10. No need to book, just turn up.
The Chichester Wave
Starting in April 2019 I will be running twice monthly sessions on the second and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7.00 pm at the Bassil Shippam Centre (Tozer Way, PO19 7LG). These sessions are relatively unstructured compared to my other classes — a chance to dance and release freely as you feel to a wave of music. Cost is £10. No need to book, just turn up.
Bosham — Lunchtime Classes at the Hamblin Centre
I run a weekly lunchtime session in the hall at the Hamblin Centre on Wednesdays at 1.15pm (cost £8). These lunchtime classes are shorter, more gentle and slow-paced than the evening sessions. We will be dancing for about an hour. Please wear something comfortable and easy to move in, bearing in mind we will be lying on the floor for part of the session.
From time to time I run longer one-off workshops. Details will be posted here. To be informed about these by email, join my mailing list.
